The project deals with productivity in situations of heterogeneity and conflict in Brazilian culture that led to impressive moments of cultural production. Maurits Script is based on Johan Maurits van Nassau’s period as Dutch governor of the North East of Brazil between 1637 and 1644. The booklet compiles stories from different sources related to this period and highlights the paradoxes and inner conflicts on the art of governing and on personal relationships at a time when different groups with clashing interests found themselves living together. |
